Introduction to the Blog
My first post was back in February - before I had even purchased a 3d printer, and it is now November and I am writing the introduction...
This blog is all about my experiences for 3d printing. It is a way for me to share what I learn along the way, and to show off what I have created.
Most pages are tagged Model and are about a specific model, and the prototype it is based on. Generally I try to visit the prototype, and include a couple of photos of that for comparison. I also try to learn the history of the building, which is not always easy, and record that on the page too. A lot are buildings in and around Preston, as that is where I live.
Models are further divided into Building, Railway (i.e., railway-related buildings), Feature (bridges, tunnel portals, etc.), Rolling Stock, Vehicle and Clutter (smaller items)
In addition, there are pages tagged How to and Prototype.
If you want to know how to use Blender to make 3d models, there is an article I wrote on another site.
For Sale!
If you want to purchase any of the models, please get in contact. I am not fully set up for sales, but we can work something out!
How to contact me
You can send me a PM on the N Gauge Forum, or (if you can put up with the adverts) on RMWeb - my user name is F2Andy. Or email me; my email address is "ak_joel" followed by the at symbol, then "hotmail.com" (which I write like that to stop bots harvesting my address).
Bespoke...
I am happy to make minor adjustments to models to suit your purpose, say to adjust the length and height of a bridge to fit your requirements. This is - to my mind - one of the great strengths of 3d printing, but I am not aware of anyone else offering this service.
I am happy to scale up small items to TT or OO. Note that larger items will not fit the printer, and breaking into multiple parts has complications...
I would consider doing entirely bespoke models, but that would cost significantly more, and would depend on the nature of the model (look at the blog to see the types of things I do). Get in contact to discuss
Costs
I do not have a price list yet... But as a starting point the tractor is £4.
If you order multiple copies of the same item, I will charge full cost for the first 5, and half that for all subsequent copies in the same order (so you can get 20 tractors for £50).
Postage and packaging is £3.50 for most items (but subject to change, so discuss). For smaller items several can go in one package.
Delivery Times
Items are made on demand, and I have a proper job; also print runs fail. All this means it could take a couple of weeks before the item is printed. When you make an order, I would take that as a commitment on your part to pay, and will try to print it as soon as I reasonably can. I will only ask for payment once the item has successfully printed, and aim to get it to you within three days of that.
If you are in northwest England, we can perhaps arrange to meet at an exhibition, and you can see the model, then pay in cash and avoid postage charges.
Breakages
These items are very fragile, and I will endeavour to get them to you in one piece. If an item arrives broken, take a photo of it in that state and I will send you a replacement for just the cost of postage. If that arrives broken, send a photo of both that and the original.
